Hospital bed entrapments still occurring despite numerous warnings from US and Canadian Health authorities (PDF)

TOLEDO, OH: Amidst various warnings and guidance documents released by Health Canada and the FDA in recent years, Hospital Bed Safety is still a danger resulting in patient entrapments and deaths. A recent I‐Team story from CBC News, Manitoba (6/19/13)has acknowledged four Winnipeg nursing home residents that died in the past 2 ½ years following a bed rail entrapment.

The Bed System Measurement Device, as featured in the I‐Team story, was developed by the Hospital Bed Safety Workgroup and is manufactured and sold by National Safety Technologies. It is designed to reduce potential entrapments that may occur with hospital bed systems. The Bed System Measurement Device is specifically designed to help healthcare facilities test the four critical entrapment zones of a bed system.
